Saap Sidi (internationally known as Snakes and Ladders) originated in ancient India under the name Moksha Patam or Paramapada Sopanam. Designed as a philosophical family board game, the ladders represented virtues such as generosity, faith, and humility that elevate a player rapidly toward the 100th square, while the snakes represented vices that slide a careless traveler back down.
How Our 10×10 Boustrophedon Board Works
On EarnTimes Ludo, our Saap Sidi arena uses the authentic 100-square Boustrophedon (zig-zag) grid:
- Squares 1 to 10 run left-to-right along the bottom row.
- Squares 11 to 20 ascend to the second row and run right-to-left, continuing in an alternating serpentine path all the way to Square 100 at the top-left corner.
- Climbing Ladders: Landing on the base of any golden ladder immediately boosts your token up to the top rung and awards celebratory bonus momentum.
- Avoiding Snakes: Landing on the head of a serpent slides your token down to its tail—requiring smart extra-turn rolls on a 6 to recover quickly!
- Exact Roll for 100: Just like reaching the central triangle in Ludo, you must roll the exact remaining number to land squarely on 100 and claim victory.
